Coalition politics was a significant development in India after 1967. The collapse of the dominant party system looked imminent when the seminar was held, but the events of 1971 and later proved that the National Congress as a political party could regain its dominance through masive electoral support. But in a number of states such as West Bengal, Bihar, Orissa the Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Madras (now Tamil Nadu) and Kerala major inter-party alignments had to be worked out. In view of these developments, this book is valueable not only as a histroical statement of the position prevailing at a given point of time but also as the analysis of the beginning of a trend in Indian Politics which has not so far been fully reversed. This volume will be of interst to the students of political and constitutional developments in the country.
