About the Book:The book is an interdisciplinary attempt to look at various dimensions of aesthetics of power in medieval Cidambaram and beyond, weaving its discourse around the figure of dancing Śiva, one of the most powerful icons in the history of world religions. The book tries to combine the fields of philosophy, history, aesthetics, performing arts, architecture, ritual and textual studies to offer a unique contribution to understanding of Śiva-the dancer, dance category and performativity, exploring their different meanings across different cultural contexts.
About the Author:Aleksandra Wenta, an Assistant Professor in the School of Buddhist Studies, Philosophy and Comparative Religions at Nālandā University, India. She was trained at Oxford University, Banaras Hindu University, and Jagiellonian University. She has co-edited [with P. Bilomoria], Emotions in Indian Thought-Systems, Routledge (2015, reprint 2018) and published several articles in the edited volumes and peer-reviewed journals.
