In the predominatly tribal region of Chotanagpur there are a number of ancient and old Hindu Shrines. The most important of these is the shrine of Tanginath in Majhagaon village on the Bihar-Madhaya Pradesh border. Dr. Sahay explores and examines the relationship of the tribal people with the Hindu and Buddhist shrines of different categories. His special focus is on Tanginath. Besides using conventional methods of anthropology research the author has drawn extensively from other sources. He has also used folklore and available historical and archaeological evidence.
